(Jean-Noël Regnier) On the album we present music of two composers – pieces for violin and piano. Their fate was different, they lived in different eras, and the reception of their work is completely different too: the output of Henryk Wieniawski (1830–1880) is known all over the world (to which the violin competition named after him contributed to a large extent), while few people have had the opportunity to get acquainted with the compositions of Andrzej Nikodemowicz (1925–2017). However, both are connected by their hometown, with which they were associated, i.e. Lublin. If we carefully listen to the music presented on the album, we will perhaps discover common features in the works of both artists. Henryk Wieniawski was a typical child of his era – a time of virtuosity pushed to the limits of bravado, boom of romantic melodies and inspiration drawn from folk music (dances: kujawiak, oberek). However, he stood out due to the maturity and depth of his compositions. He was also famous for his tireless concert activities. On the album, we present violin miniatures of great melodic and expressive value, both impressive and lyrical. Out of Nikodemowicz’s compositions, his early works for violin and piano were selected. Perhaps it is in their melody of romantic origin and broad, smooth cantilena that we will hear a certain expressive resemblance connecting both artists, although the harmony accompanying Nikodemowicz’s pieces clearly derives from 20th-century music. The works are performed by Dominika Falger (violin) and Gajusz Keska (piano).
