CPO avait grandement contribué à la sortie du purgatoire du suédois Kurt Atterberg en faisant enregistrer ses neuf symphonies et ses concertos à l’excellent Ari Rasilainen. Cette fois, c’est l’opéra féérique "Aladin" qui exploite un conte oriental bien connu avec sa lampe magique et son esprit qui fait l’objet d’une captation à l’opéra de Braunschweig en 2017 préservant sa dimension théâtrale. Atterberg pimente d’accents orientalisants façon Rimski-Korsakov son langage puissant à l’orchestration massive et laisse s’exprimer un lyrisme qui a écouté Strauss. Un peu inégale, la distribution repose surtout sur le couple mené par le ténor Michael Ha, "Aladin" rempli de fougue et d’enthousiasme qui finira par triompher du vilain vizir Muluk dans le cœur de la belle princesse Laila ; celle-ci est incarnée par la voix ravissante de la soprano française Solen Mainguené, grande triomphatrice de l’enregistrement. Chanté en allemand, la langue de la création à Chemnitz en 1941, accompagné du livret intégral en allemand et anglais, cet opéra qui nous revient dans les meilleures conditions est une vraie pépite à thésauriser. On ne peut encore une fois que saluer la remarquable curiosité et le flair infaillible de l’éditeur. Bravo ! (Richard Wander)

A fairy-tale opera for adults - unfortunately hardly performed today - was composed by Kurt Atterberg with his opera "Aladin". on which he worked from 1936-41. The composer does not only lose himself in the exotic, no, his late romantic sound language moves the well-known fairy tale from the collection 1001 Nights almost into our time, however somewhat varied. In Atterberg's and the librettist Bruno Hardt-Warden's work, love is at the beginning, and only then does the magic lamp that fulfills all wishes come into play Aladdin is captivated by the beauty and splendor of the princess Laila, with whom he falls in love.
