Asya Fateyeva aborde le répertoire du saxophone en Allemagne durant les créatives années 1920. Le programme présente différentes esthétiques de cette bouillonnante époque notamment marquée par l'arrivée du jazz en Europe. L'agréable Hot-Sonate (1928) de Schulhoff arrangée ici avec quatuor à cordes comprend des éléments stylisés de cette musique de danse venue d'Outre-Atlantique. Krenek avec la suite issue de son opéra Jonny Spielt Auf (1927) mettant en scène un violoniste de jazz noir-américain contient des rythmes de tango et de shimmy. Les extraits de L'Opéra de quatre sous (1928) de Weill mettent en avant la musique de cabaret. Dans un autre genre, l’atonalité abstraite et débridée irrigue le court quatuor (1928-30) de Webern quand une modernité modérée et expressive caractérise l'original Trio (1928) d’Hindemith. On découvrira l'intéressant Quintette (1925) pour saxophone et quatuor à cordes de style post-romantique du réputé violoniste Adolphe Busch. L'agilité brillante et le timbre velouté et lumineux de l'instrument apportent un exotisme peu commun à ce type de formation. Ces esthétiques et leurs compositeurs, tout comme le saxophone, furent ensuite officiellement classés dans la « Musique dégénérée » par le régime nazi (en dehors d'Adolf Busch qui quittera néanmoins l'Allemagne dès 1933). Un intéressant programme élaboré par Asya Fateyeva qui fait preuve, une fois encore, d’une qualité de jeu remarquable. (Laurent Mineau)
