Clair Obscur' musical : l'intention des interprètes est de nous offrir un festival de jeux de sonorités dans l'acoustique flatteuse de l'Abbatiale de Payerne et les interprètes n'ont pas lésiné sur les moyens avec six flûtes à bec différentes et un traverso renaissance en sus de l'orgue Ahrend (1999) du lieu, inspiré par celui de la Basilica San Petronio de Bologne. Les transcriptions abondent dans les oeuvres jouées par les deux instruments: deux galliardes de Byrd, privées de leurs pavanes et composées à l'origine pour clavier seul; deux madrigaux de Palestrina parés des ornements ajoutés par Francesco Rognoni (1570-1626) qui se superposent au contrepoint original; deux sonates, initialement pour violon et basse continue, de Dario Castello et les sonates Cu Cu et Seconda de Schmelzer primitivement pour la même instrumentation. A la flûte à bec solo sont réservées deux suites de variations de Jacob van Eyck tandis que reviennent à l'orgue les Toccatas Seconda et Settima de Michelangelo Rossi et le Capriccio sopra il Kuku bien connu de Kerll. Charlotte Schneider, étincelante de couleurs, et l'excellent Guy-Baptiste Jaccottet atteignent le but qu'ils s'étaient fixé en nous grisant de virtuosité et de charme. (Michel Lorentz-Alibert)

La flûtiste Charlotte Schneider et l’organiste Guy Baptiste Jaccottet s’attellent depuis 2017 à explorer les multiples sonorités qu’offre la combinaison de leurs instruments à travers le répertoire du 16ème au 18ème siècle en arrangeant pour leur formation. Ainsi les Sonates de Castello et de Schmelzer (Joviale "Sonata Cu Cu"), originellement conçues pour violon et basse continue, déploie le chant intrépide et virtuose de la flûte soutenu par un orgue vibrionnant. L’Ahrend de Payerne montre ses timbres somptueux dans les Toccatas (Seconda & settima) de Michelangelo Rossi. Les deux Gaillardes de Byrd sont tout aussi rafraîchissantes. Quant au "Cappricio sopra il Kuku" de Kerll, joliment enlevé, il dévoile le merveilleux jeu de flûte de l’orgue, fusionnant ainsi avec son modèle. Un duo bien roboratif. (Jérôme Angouillant)

Charlotte Schneider and Guy-Baptiste Jaccottet have been exploring since 2017 the multiple sounds offered by their combined instruments. These curious and playful musicians explore a repertoire stretching from the 16th to the 18th century, transcribing and arranging pieces for their duo. As a result, their music lies at the crossroads of historically informed performance practice and the concrete reality of instruments and places. Introduction Love at first sight for the building, the history, the acoustics and the outstanding organ of the Payerne Abbey: following a first concert programme in 2021, the desire to record in this magnificent setting immediately became obvious. The abbey’s Ahrend organ – a true musical jewel in the centre of this Romanesque masterpiece – is the programme’s cornerstone. The different pieces have been chosen to highlight the instrument’s multiple facets, from the depth and serenity of the Principal to the elegant clarity of the Ripieno. The immense richness of its meantone temperament with split sharps and its keyboard descending to F (12’) allow the performer to make the most of a huge palette of sound and harmonic colours. Apart from the solo works, each piece is arranged to suit the specificities of the different flutes and the organ. In the sonatas, for example, specific passages had to be octavated or rewritten for the recorder, and the continuo was arranged so that the whole instrument could be heard. The gaillardes written for solo keyboard have been set for organ and flute, and Palestrina’s madrigals are broadly performed on the keyboard to avoid certain voice crossings that the organ cannot render correctly. This constant arrangement and transcription process is part of our work as a duo. We endeavour to remain as faithful as possible to the text while considering the needs of our instruments at an individual and joint level. In this duo programme, the works are played in pairs.
