Le compositeur Carlo Alessandro Landini né en 1954, sorti du CNSM de Paris en 1981, nous propose une messe contemporaine à neuf voix à capella non sans intérêt. Aux cinq pièces de l’ordinaire, Landini ajoute un Introibo et un Gloria patri en incipit, un Gratias agimus et un Benedicamus in conclusio, pour former une œuvre d’une grande homogénéité qui aurait cependant mérité de plus grands contrastes de tempi. Ainsi les neuf voix mordantes libèrent une énergie presque retenue dans les mélismes que propose Landini ; vastes frottements, clusters, glissandos résolument contemporains du Credo central faisant écho aux contrepoints riches jouant sur la spatialisation du Gratias. De la Verticalité ancestrale du Kyrie aux réminiscences de l’École de Notre Dame du Benedicamus annonçant la glorification tonale finale, cette messe toute en atmosphère participe d’un ascétisme où chacun pourra réfléchir sur le sens et la quête de sa propre spiritualité, aidé en cela d’un Ensemble Fleur-de-Lys, enregistré tout près, susurrant à nos oreilles avec justesse et immédiateté sans jamais gonfler le trait. The production of the award-winning composer Carlo Alessandro Landini is enriched with this publication of a sacred page - not common for the maestro - of rare difficulty. Difficulty due not only to the essence of a text like that of a mass, so full of substance and meaning that it makes your wrists tremble at the idea of translating them into music, but also to the inevitable confrontation with the greatest geniuses in history who, from the Middle Ages to the present days, have tried their hand at this genre. Landini uses for his work an acappella vocal group (the Ensemble Fleur-de-Lys, directed by maestro Giorgio Ubaldi), in a sort of return to the purest essence of musical expression, the ancestral and at the same time always modern that comes from the human voice alone. A look therefore to the past great polyphonic traditions that finds its reason in a modernity that has now overcome the 'sterility' of many avant-gardes that, through pure research, however, have not reached the completing of the art form.
