On décèle bien dans ce disque du duo Marcanto, formé par la guitare de Markos De Stefanos et le violon de Santje Asche-Tauscher deux orientations bien distinctes, mais qui s’accommodent au final très bien l’une de l’autre. D’un côté on retrouve des œuvres inspirés par les musiques traditionnelles, comme les deux extraits arrangés de l’histoire du Tango d’Astor Piazzolla, ou encore le Czardas de Vittorio Monti et enfin les danses populaires roumaines de Bartok, que de plus la guitare tend à enrichir d‘un timbre particulier et qui peut évoquer le cymbalum, ou encore les instruments à cordes pincés des pays de l’est. De l’autre côté, un choix d ‘œuvre du répertoire romantique, avec les nocturnes de Burgmüller, ou de Molino, et bien sur la célèbre Mélodie de Fauré, « Après un rêve » et dont ici la guitare tend à accentuer l’aspect intimiste et nocturne. Un programme très bien conçu, et dont le timbre de la guitare personnifie de manière pertinente chaque arrangement. (Jérôme Leclair)  “Après un rêve” is considered to be Fauré’s bestknown song and is one of his earliest and most beautiful compositions. In 1878 he set Romain Bussine’s poem of that name to music. This CD contains furthermore compositions by Niccolò Paganini, Francesco Molino, Friedrich Burgmüller, Astor Piazzolla, Béla Bartók and Vittorio Monti. Swantje Asche-Tauscher (violin) belongs to that generation of young German violinists who enchant with their “expressive, sonorous playing”. At the age of 14, she performed as a soloist in the Stuttgart Liederhalle. She had played at the Stiftung Mozarteum in Salzburg. She completed her Master’s degree in violin performance in Stuttgart, London, and Salzburg, under Prof. Christian Sikorski, Prof. Igor Ozim, and Prof. Rainer Schmidt, graduating with distinction. In 2019 she completed post-graduate studies at the Mozarteum University under Prof. Esther Hoppe. Markos Destefanos belongs to the promising younger generation of classical guitarists. He studied guitar performance at the Conservatory in Athens under Prof. Michalis Kontaxakis and graduated in 2012 with his Diploma. He continued his studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg where he completed both an MA with distinction under Prof. Eliot Fisk.
