Pavarotti à son automne. Glorieux automne ? Voire. Le timbre, splendide ("Quand Luciano Pavarotti chante, le soleil se lève sur le monde", Carlos Kleiber), séducteur en diable est toujours là, bien qu’un peu blanchi, avec cette tendance au "fading" bien installée. L’aigu même moins assuré – et jamais facile aux dires de l’intéressé – fascine toujours autant. L’artiste, moins demandé par les maisons d’opéras, lassées de payer des cachets mirobolants et de subir caprices de stars et annulations inopinées, fait évoluer son répertoire. L’opéra et la mélodie italienne représentent deux bons tiers du programme – on n’en est pas encore aux "Pavarotti and friends". Direction professionnelle et efficace du brave Leone Magiera, accompagnateur multi-fonctions et à l’occasion souffre-douleurs de la star (cf les mémoires de l’impresario Herbert Breslin pour son rôle dans la réalisation du curieux Otello de Chicago publié par Decca). Même si le programme ne brille pas par sa cohérence artistique (O sole mio en bis après Nessun Dorma), même si le français de "Pourquoi me réveiller?" sonne un peu exotique, même si… bien d’autres choses encore, il faut regarder ce concert sans bouder son plaisir. Chacun y trouvera son moment favori, pour ce qui concerne l’auteur de ces lignes, le merveilleux "Rondine al Nido". (Olivier Gutierrez)
