Avec l’opérette "Frau Luna" créée le 1er mai 1899 à l'Apollo-Theater de Berlin, remaniée dans sa version définitive en 1922, Paul Lincke et son parolier Bolten-Baeckers signent le modèle de l’opérette berlinoise. Burlesque dans l’âme, l’œuvre nous invite à rejoindre Frau Luna sur la lune dans le ballon de Steppke, mécanicien passionné d’aviation, accompagné de ses amis Lämmermeier et Pannecke. Ils y rencontrerons le prince Étoile filante, la belle Marie, Theophil, Mars et Vénus… Mélange de rêve et de fantasmagorie, la partition fait la part belle aux valses, aux romances et aux marches rondement martelées. Quel Berlinois ne connaît l’hymne non officiel de la ville "Das ist die Berliner Luft", morceau iconique de la partition ? Autres séquences célèbres, "Oh Theophil" qui n’est pas sans rappeler l’escarpolette de "Véronique" de Messager, le duo "Schenk mir doch ein kleines bisschen Liebe" et l'aria"Schlösser, die im Monde liegen". Réédition de l’enregistrement de 2006 dirigée par Helmuth Froschauer (collaborateur de Karajan) disparu en 2019, cette pétillante opérette bénéficie d’une distribution irréprochable. Texte de présentation en allemand et anglais sans livret. Nombreux dialogues en allemand d’une durée de près de 45 minutes qu’apprécieront les germanistes confirmés. (Gérard Martin)

What times those were: To mark the 60th anniversary of Paul Lincke's death, WDR organized a concert performance of the completely unabridged "Frau Luna" in May 2006 at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, followed by two weeks of production at the Cologne Funkhaus. What was special about this was that not only Lincke's music sounded true to the original, but the original dialogue by Heinrich Bolten-Baeckers was also trusted, without being shortened or fashionably updated. And lo and behold: the result is an operetta revelation! Lincke was simply more than just an ingenious inventor of melodies: refined and elaborate ensembles and finales show great compositional quality. And then, of course, there is the dream cast: René Kollo and Maria Leyer for the "great" singing parts of Luna and Prince Sternschnuppe, and singing folk actors like Wolfgang Völz, Lotti Krekel and Ernst H. Hilbig for the traveling moon troupe. Together with the Lehár's Rastelbinder production of the ORF from 1981 with the incomparable Fritz Muliar (CD 5816938) we now have two almost historical jewels of the operetta - discography in our catalog!
