Si la jaquette de l’album peut faire penser à de la musique contemporaine, ce sont les amateurs de musique symphonique riche en couleur à l’écriture postromantique passionnée qui seront séduits par cette œuvre. On ne s’ennuie pas à l’écoute de la Symphonie « Renaissance » (1902) du compositeur polonais Mieczyslaw Karlowicz disparu tragiquement trop tôt pour laisser s’exprimer pleinement un talent prometteur. Le lyrisme des cordes, la fougue des cuivres, les interventions martiales des percussions, la caresse des bois enrobés par des cors veloutés nous emportent dans une éclatante fresque orchestrale. Symbolisant le besoin de renouveau d’un esprit en proie au doute, l’écriture dynamique et contrastée captive l’auditeur par son alternance entre passages tempétueux et moments d’accalmie menant vers l’espoir et la réjouissance finale. L’orchestration remarquable, les mélodies au charme immédiat et le sens de la dramaturgie musicale font de cette symphonie une œuvre brillante. L’interprétation flamboyante de l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Szczecin, qui avait déjà dédié un album à ce compositeur paru en 2017, nous tient en haleine durant les quarante-six minutes que dure la symphonie. The Mieczyslaw Karlowicz Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra began its anniversary 2018 season releasing an album with the only classical symphony of its patron. The event is all the more interesting because the realised in the SACD technology recording is the first one which, together with the Szczecin philharmonics, was conducted by maestro Rune Bergmann, fascinated by the work of Karlowicz, artistic director of this institution. The choice of Rebirth at the beginning of the jubilee is not accidental, as this composition, perfectly illustrating the whole spectrum of emotions and states of mind accompanying us in key moments of life, in a specific way is also reflected in the rich history of the orchestra and its city. The programme and emotional ambiguity of the symphony causes that its correct performance may even have a radically different character. Hence it is particularly worth getting acquainted with the latest interpretation of Rune Bergmann, who, known for his energy, spontaneity, and unconventional approach to work, is mentioned among the most outstanding conductors of the Scandinavian countries.
