Franz Xaver Scharwenka Concerto Pour Piano N 1 - Symphonie En Do Mineur Powell Borowicz

Pianiste, chef d’orchestre et organisateur de concerts, Franz Xaver Scharwenka a aussi composé quatre concertos pour piano dont le premier (1876) reste le plus célèbre. Dédié à Liszt que l’orageux thème initial du premier mouvement, allegro patetico, évoque irrésistiblement, il marque aussi l’esprit de l’auditeur par sa forme avec un mouvement central rapide et un final où réapparaît le thème du premier mouvement. Habitué des défis pianistiques les plus difficiles à relever (il a joué le démentiel "Opus clavicembalisticum" de Sorabji), Jonathan Powell ne fait qu’une bouchée de cette musique spectaculaire et redoutablement bien écrite. Plus conventionnelle, la symphonie en ut mineur (1882) se situe plus dans la descendance de Schumann, même si quelques accents wagnériens ou évoquant un peu Tchaikovski sont aussi discernables. On connaît l’énergie et l’engagement que met Lukasz Borowicz à faire découvrir et aimer les œuvres rares qu’il enregistre et qui lui permettent de conférer à cette page un peu pâle un relief saisissant. When the Polish city of Poznan was still called Posen, a certain Franz Xaver Scharwenka attended the local high school before embarking on a musical career that garnered him significant attention and admiration. Although he primarily made a name for himself as a pianist and composer of countless piano pieces, he was compelled to venture beyond his instrument and did so with remarkable success. In 1877, he presented the first of his four piano concertos to the public in Hanover, a work that continues to delight audiences and has now been added to the cpo catalog. This imaginative piece, performed by the British pianist Jonathan Powell and the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Lukasz Borowicz, serves as a prelude to the only symphony Scharwenka composed – a compelling testament to a man who mastered much more than just the 88 keys.
