Franz Krommer Concerto Pour 2 Clarinettes Op 35 - Concertino Op 38 Beltramini Giuffredi Grossi Schiavon

Renommé de son vivant, considéré comme l’héritier de Haydn dans le domaine du quatuor à cordes, compositeur prolifique de musique instrumentale notamment pour les vents, Krommer fut vite oublié après sa mort dans la Vienne musicale de l’époque supplanté par Beethoven. On redécouvre depuis peu son œuvre qualitative au discours dynamique et enthousiasmant. La critique et le public de l’époque puis le monde de l’édition firent un très bon accueil à son Concerto pour deux clarinettes opus 35 (1803). Aujourd’hui encore on apprécie son style vivace et rafraîchissant ponctué d’effets dramatiques. On est conquis par l’écriture agile et mélodieuse des clarinettes accompagnées d’un orchestre joliment expressif. L’écriture inventive et stimulante de Krommer s'apprécie encore plus dans son Concertino opus 38 (1803). L’orchestration originale mettant en soliste une flûte, un hautbois et un violon accompagnés d’un orchestre constitué d’altos, de cors et de basses confère à la composition une clarté et une légèreté des plus appréciables. À travers cinq mouvements, c’est tout l’art inspiré de Krommer qui s’exprime, radieux, allègre, pétillant et gracieux, d’une vitalité réjouissante et immanquablement accrocheur procurant un réel plaisir musical à l’auditeur. Franz Krommer has been rather neglected by musicological research. It was not until 1997 that the Czech musicologist Karel Padrta presented a detailed catalog of his works with an introductory biographical section, which in many respects was the first to contain research results that went beyond what had been handed down from the 19th century. In his oeuvre, Krommer focused entirely on instrumental music. Krommer's first concerto for two clarinets and orchestra in E-flat major, op. 35 (Padrta III:3) seems to have been very popular. The reviewer of a performance of the concerto in Breslau in the winter of 1803/04 found it in the Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung: "a fine concerto" and ended his review with the exclamation: "If only Mr. Krommer provided us with more such concertos!" The special feature of the Concertino op. 38 lies in the instrumentation: it is written for flute, oboe, violin as solo instruments and horns, violas and basses in orchestral tutti. Another difference to the concerto can also be seen in the construction of those movements of the concertino that can be compared most closely to those of a concerto; these are the corner movements and the middle movement. They are much more loosely structured and, even if they contain virtuoso passages, serve the need for entertainment rather than the development of the instrumental skills of the performers.
