Emilia Giuliani Intégrale de lœuvre pour guitare Artuso - TC810790 - Tactus - Classique

Ce double disque en première mondiale édité par le label italien Tactus constitue une excellente introduction à l’œuvre d'Emilia Giuliani guitariste et compositrice née en 1813 à Vienne, issue d'une dynastie de musiciens et fille du célèbre Mauro Giuliani. Concertiste, elle se produit en Italie puis dans toute l'Europe, sans jamais s'arrêter de composer. Toutes ses compositions sont pour guitare, la plupart s'inspirant d'airs d'opéras (Rossini, Mercadante) notamment la série des six Fantaisies intitulées Belliniane d'après des mélodies de Bellini en référence aux Rossiniane composées par son père. Chaque opéra bellinien fournit matière à d'extraordinaires variations prolixes et virtuoses. Quant aux six Préludes op. 46 publiés à Vienne en 1841 ils s'appuient plutôt sur des formules polyphoniques alla Bach les deux derniers évoquant curieusement les études de Villa-Lobos. Le troisième est basé sur un Caprice de Luigi Legnani. Federica Artuso maîtrise sans peine ces pages d'une difficulté technique redoutable. Elle joue par ailleurs sur une somptueuse guitare fabriquée en 1830 par René Lacote. Un album inédit qui nous vaut la découverte d'une compositrice importante du dix-neuvième siècle. The project of the musicologist Nicoletta Confalone and of the guitarist Federica Artuso is aimed at the discovery of Emilia Giuliani, illegitimate daughter of the famous Mauro Giuliani that, with his guitar and his compositions, conquered Vienna, the capital of 19th century music. Emilia lived her entire life in a continuous state of difficulty and discomfort, dying of typhus at the age of only thirtyseven. The adverse events of her life and her condition as a woman (considering that in her days it was almost impossible to express her talent as an artist) did not prevent her from reaping flattering successes from audiences and critics in the many European stages of her unfortunately short life: suffice for all the quotation of some Viennese critics who, after a concert she shared with Franz Liszt, exclaimed with admiration: "Every finger, one Liszt!”. In addition to her amazing skills as an instrumentalist, she was also appreciated for her music that she managed to publish with the major publishers of the time: Giovanni Ricordi in Milan and Artaria in Vienna. This double CD includes her complete work for guitar, for the first time on an historic instrument, a 1830 René Lacote.
