Gregor Meyer et son Ensemble 1684 poursuivent la redécouverte des Concertos Sacrés de Johann Rosenmüller, héritier indirect de Schein et de Schütz, qui inspirera Bach et Telemann. Toutes inédites, les œuvres présentées ici datent pour la plupart du séjour de près de trente ans de Rosenmüller à Venise, où il s’est réfugié après avoir dû fuir Leipzig et son poste d’enseignant à l’Ecole de Saint-Thomas, poursuivi et emprisonné pour une affaire de mœurs. Ces œuvres lui vaudront d’importantes fonctions musicales dans sa ville d’asile, comme compositeur à l’Ospedale della Pietà, tout en continuant à être diffusées en Allemagne, où sa réputation musicale reste grande. On y entend l’influence du style opératique italien, notamment celle de son quasi-contemporain Giovanni Legrenzi, par exemple dans le beau « Magnificat ». Mais on trouve aussi dans cette livraison des chorals antérieurs à cet exil forcé, plus proches de la tradition polyphonique luthérienne, comme le très beau Welt, ade ! ». Plus que la redécouverte d’un « chainon manquant » du baroque allemand : Un véritable plaisir d’écoute, grâce à la beauté des voix et des sonorités instrumentales. (Marc Galand)

Following our first CD with sacred concertos by Johann Rosenmüller, we are now releasing another CD with concertos for larger ensembles by this genial composer and musician who quite soon attracted attention with his perfect musical blend and tireless creative drive as well as with his persistent striving for innovation. In his works Rosenmüller succeeded in blending the new Italian colorfulness and tonal sensitivity with the gravity of Central German music into a unique, sublime style. The more than one hundred works by Rosenmüller that have come down to us, most of them dimensioned on the large scale, reveal a composer who gave everything he had to bring to perfection the mixing of Central German and Italian stylistics begun in Leipzig and ultimately to lend the sacred concerto a personal signature. »The music speaks for itself, for it is filled with enthralling moments.
