 Sur la lancée de leur splendide intégrale des six sonates de Johann Sebastian, Ryo Terakado et Fabio Bonizzoni signent aujourd’hui pour le même éditeur un enregistrement tout aussi admirable consacré au plus génial des fils Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel. Parmi les 10 partitions que le musicien a destinées au violon avec clavier obligé, les quatre sonates composées en 1763 (numérotées 75 à 78 dans le catalogue Wotquenne) constituent sans doute sa plus grande réussite dans le genre. On regrette bien sûr l’absence ici de la Wq. 75 en fa majeur mais c’est pour se réjouir de voir programmée l’extraordinaire Fantasia en fa dièse mineur, Wq. 80, construite à partir de la Fantaisie pour clavier, Wq. 67 avec l’ajout d’une partie de violon ainsi qu’un Allegro nouvellement composé. Dans cet ouvrage tardif (1788), le violon renforce la profondeur émotionnelle et la couleur tonale de la musique, entretenant une atmosphère préromantique assez fascinante. Le compositeur lui-même avait sous-titré ce chef-d’œuvre "C.P.E. Bachs Empfindungen" (Sentiments de C.P.E. Bach). Ryo Terakado fait chanter son Giovanni Grancino de 1690 dans une grâce lumineuse en déployant un discours à l’ardeur frémissante. L’entente avec son vieux complice Fabio Bonizzoni est quasi idéale, le clavecin flamand et le violon italien mêlant leurs sonorités en une palette surnaturelle : dans l’Adagio ma non troppo de la Wq. 78 l’archet semble souffler dans une flûte tandis que le clavier lui tisse une parure de soie. Un must, évidemment ! (Gérard Belvire) C.P.E. Bach also left behind intriguing works for the same instrumentation in his very late years, during the 1780s. The Fantasia in F-sharp Minor (Wq. 80) was based on his Fantasia for Clavier (Wq. 67), with a violin part added to enrich the texture and a newly composed Allegro appended. The original clavier fantasia was already a late work, but this violin-accompanied version was completed even later, in 1788, the year of his death. The violin is no longer an equal partner to the clavier. Instead, it is used solely to enhance the emotional depth and tonal color of the music, never carrying an independent melody. This represented an entirely new approach to the violin. Yet this very aspect intensified the depth of the music, creating an even stronger emotional impact. To this violin-accompanied version, C.P.E. Bach uniquely gave the subtitle C.P.E. Bachs Empfindungen (“C.P.E Bach’s Sentiments”). Moreover, the opening instruction reads Sehr traurig und ganz langsam ("Very sad and utterly slow"), revealing the heavy sorrow that weighed upon him at the time. As he faced the shadow of death, his inner turmoil is expressed through eleven dramatic tempo changes, portraying a heart deeply shaken.This CD includes this Fantasia along with three of the four sonatas mentioned earlier.
