Charles Paul Florimond Quef was born on November 1st 1873 in Lille. He began his musical education at his hometown’s conservatory, and since 1894 continued his studies at the Conservatory of Paris, studying organs under the guidance of Guilmant and Widor. He also learns about improvisation, harmony, counterpoint and fugues. In his student years he practices in churches of St. Marie des Batignolles and St. Laurent. Laureate of a few awards in categories of improvisation and organs, amongst them the coveted 1st prize in 1898. After completing his studies, for the next couple years, he becomes the choir organist in the St. Trinité church in Paris and the assistant of Alexandre Guilmant. He marries Clara Cornélie Madeleine Luys, who gives birth to two daughters: Amélie and Hélène. In 1903 he moves to Meudon, in Paris’ suburbs. During the 1st World War he serves in the French army. After completing his military service, he returns to St. Trinité, where he continues developing his abilities. In July 2nd 1931 he dies in Meudon.
