Cet album propose deux expériences originales et bienvenues. Sur le CD, d’abord, Andreina di Girolamo et Silvia Rambaldi proposent une interprétation à deux clavecins de sept sonates de Domenico Scarlatti appartenant au 14e volume de ses manuscrits, datant de 1742 et contenant des sonates de jeunesse écrites pour instrument solo et accompagnement qui sont, par conséquent, dotées d’une basse chiffrée. Les deux clavecins interprètent donc chaque composition tout en réalisant la basse continue et en improvisant des diminutions et des embellissements concertants selon les pratiques d'interprétation de l'époque. Le DVD, ensuite, propose des extraits du spectacle intitulé La festa dorata dell’anima donné le 10 avril 2010 à la Villa Mazzacorati de Bologne, dans lequel le lien si souvent évoqué de la musique de Scarlatti avec le flamenco et la tradition populaire andalouse est rendu pleinement tangible, puisque la danseuse Rita Marchesini, spécialiste de danse baroque et flamenco, accompagnée du guitariste andalou José Alberto Rodriguez, improvise sur plusieurs sonates. Les extraits du spectacle sont accompagnés de commentaires en italien (malheureusement non traduits) de la musicologue Emilia Fadini. Un album digne d’intérêt. (Emmanuel Lacoue-Labarthe)

For many decades, students of Domenico Scarlatti, including me, have been debating about the relationship between most of Scarlatti’s Sonatas and Flamenco dance. Silvia Rambaldi and Andreina Di Girolamo deserve our praise for presenting a practical demonstration that moves beyond the boundary of words, uniting dance and harpsichord performance, by means of the collaboration of the dancer Rita Marchesini, who is an expert on both Baroque and Flamenco dance. And since very often within certain Sonatas there is an alternation between the Andalusian style and the Italian one, the dancer, with her performance, demonstrates that it is possible to “play” with both styles appropriately. (Emilia Fadini) This interesting production on the harpsichord sonatas “encrypted” by Domenico Scarlatti is accompanied by a DVD rom containing the video of the sonatas for two harpsichords filmed in the performance “La festa dorata dell'anima”, in which Rita Marchesini (historical dance and flamenco) and Alberto Rodriguez (Andalusian guitarist) join the harpsichordists Andreina di Girolamo and Silvia Rambaldi in this “field demonstration” of the influence of Italian and Spanish dance on the works of the great composer.
