 Tisser des ponts entre Robert Schumann et York Höller ? Mission impossible pour l’édition 2022 du Klavier-Festival Ruhr, pourtant la juxtaposition d’un CD l’autre est fascinante. A la lyrique exaltée du premier, répond l’écriture tour à tour menaçante ou intrigante du Concerto pour piano, violoncelle et orchestre du second, écrit en 2020-2021 pour Martin Helmchen et Marie-Elisabeth Hecker : vous tiendrez là l’enregistrement de la création. L’œuvre soutient des écoutes répétées, partition fascinante que complètent trois œuvres pour piano solo - la Troisième Sonate (2010) est l’un de ses chefs-d’œuvre – illustrées par le piano versicolore, le toucher arachnéen d’Hanni Liang. Coté Schumann, une confirmation : Elena Fischer-Dieskau est chez elle dans l’univers de l’auteur du "Carnaval", un compositeur qu’elle avait déjà choisi pour son premier opus discographique (Kreisleriana chez Delphian) : "Waldszenen" contées comme en songe, Deuxième Sonate subtilement détaillée mais menée de bout en bout avec une logique interne que trop peu auront su incarner. Que lui manquerait-il ? L’exaltation, que Giorgi Gigashvili met à sa lecture épique de la Première Sonate. Trop vite, pour le premier mouvement, mais comment résister à ce piano supra-virtuose qui pourtant chante l’Aria, fait tonner le Scherzo avant d’offrir un final construit à mesure, tendant peu à peu les apartés pour mieux enflammer les dernières pages. (Discophilia - Artalinna.com) (Jean-Charles Hoffelé) This year, once again, we invited a series of young talented pianists to perform their debut at the Ruhr Piano Festival. Two of them, Elena Fischer-Dieskau and Giorgi Gigashvili, are featured on the first CD of the current Vol. 41 boxed set, and they both centered their recital programmes around the great Romantic composer Robert Schumann. Our first CD thus consists of “pure Schumann.” I was particularly thrilled that this year we were able to ensure the world premiere performance of the great York Höller’s Double Concerto for Cello, Piano and Orchestra, a work commissioned by the Ruhr Piano Festival. Pianist Martin Helmchen and cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker set out with the Double Concerto on a highly successful maiden voyage at the Stadthalle Mühlheim with the Cologne Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Christoph Poppen. That major musical event was supplemented two days later with a portrait recital by Hanni Liang, featuring piano works by York Höller from three decades of his oeuvre. Thus, our second CD offers you a fascinating overview of the output of this particularly appealing composer.
