 Compositeur prolixe dont la carrière s'étendit sur une grande partie du XXe siècle, héritier de la tradition néoclassique italienne liée à la génération « des années 1880 » (Respighi, Casella, Malipiero...), F. Margola reste trop peu connu en France, alors que son œuvre, unanimement saluée en Italie, y a été servie par de grands interprètes tels qu' Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, dédicataire d'un de ses concertos pour piano. S'il n'a pas révolutionné le langage musical, ce compositeur artisan (au sens noble du terme) s'affirme comme un remarquable architecte des formes, ce dont témoignent plus particulièrement, dans ce CD, le concerto et la sonate : ces œuvres offrent un "récit" musical minutieusement conçu, dont la trame est d'une grande richesse, et dans lequel les idées s'imbriquent entre elles avec ingéniosité, aisance et clarté. L'écriture à la fois fouillée et décantée génère une marqueterie sonore subtile, supérieurement équilibrée, dans laquelle tout se tient et où pourtant tout circule : l'alliance des timbres, les couleurs qu'elle fait naître, la délicatesse et la maîtrise avec lesquelles se tisse, par exemple, dans le mouvement lent du concerto le rapport entre violoncelle et instruments à vent, suscitent chez l'auditeur une sorte de ravissement. Dans le troisième mouvement de la sonate, l'allant et l'élan liés à l'émulation surprenante et jaillissante entre les deux instruments font merveille. Les musiciens, sont, au-delà de leur investissement dans ce Cd, de véritables ambassadeurs de l'œuvre et savent le faire sentir. À découvrir. A particularly interesting figure in the panorama of the musical history of the twentieth century, Margola is a direct descendant of that neoclassical movement to which the "generation of the Eighties" belonged, in which he was able to express his talent more fully and to which he remained faithful even after a period of dodecaphonic experimentations. The protagonists of this recording are Jacopo Francini on solo cello, accompanied by Alessandro Deljavan on piano and by the Orchestra of the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, directed by Paolo Longo, with the participation of Giovanni Sollima in the duets for two cellos. At the end of the cd, the famous adagio with variations by Ottorino Respighi, one of the most loved and performed pages of the cello repertoire, thanks to its great lyrical inspiration.
