 Ils sont peu joués hors de Pologne, et c’est une injustice. Emil Mlynarski, formé au Conservatoire Impérial de St Pétersbourg, subjugué par Anton Rubinstein et plus encore par Tchaïkovski, se voua entièrement à son instrument, concertiste renommé en Russie, second violon du Quatuor Auer, mais aussi pédagogue au Conservatoire d’Odessa où il eu parmi ses élèves celui qui allait inspirer le renouveau du concerto pour violon, Pavel Kochanski. Son Premier Concerto, au romantisme tempéré, plus proche des univers sombres de Bruch que du geste lyrique d’un Tchaïkovski lui valu de remporter un prix au Concours Paderewski de Leipzig. What is more, the number of honourable and responsible functions he would hold for years ensured him the position of an undisputed authority. Today, unfortunately, hardly anyone remembers that during his lifetime the artist was also valued for his compositional output, which is confirmed by, for example, a prestigious, approved by, e.g. Arthur Nikisch, award he received for the Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 11. The present album perfectly fits into promotional activities of unjustly forgotten Polish music.
