 Composé à 18 ans par celui que l’on surnomma le second Paganini, et dédié au roi de Prusse Frédéric-Guillaume IV, le Premier Concerto pour violon de Wieniawski comporte trois mouvements fortement déséquilibrés. Un long premier mouvement de plus d’un quart d’heure, ample et expressif, privilégie la virtuosité notamment dans la cadence jouée dans le registre supérieur. Le larghetto central est une courte « prière » quelque peu monotone jouée dans le grave. Le rondo, allegro giocoso final, affiche une belle vivacité. Wojciech Niedzolka, jeune violoniste lauréat de nombreux concours prestigieux, interprète avec aisance cette œuvre de jeunesse. La symphonie n° 2 de Noskowski, père de la musique symphonique polonaise, est une œuvre patriotique composée entre 1875 et 1879. En quatre mouvements très équilibrés, elle est wagnérienne dans son premier mouvement, slave et dansante dans le second. Dans le troisième, Elegia, qui donne son nom à l’œuvre, l’écriture est plus sombre, l’indépendance de la Pologne est encore loin. Le final libellé Per aspera ad astra (Par des voies ardues jusqu'aux étoiles) cite la Mazurka de Dombrowski qui deviendra l’hymne polonais en 1927. Although different in character, they share a huge variety of motifs, from pathos and virtuosity to profound lyricism and reverie. The solo part of Wieniawski’s youth concerto is performed by a young violinist – winner of many competition trophies, remembered especially from his participation in the most recent Wieniawski competition in Poznan, recipient of the award for the best Polish participant – Wojciech Niedziólka. The Lódz Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of its artistic director draws attention to the richness of the orchestral part accompanying the soloist. Noskowski’s dramatic Symphony No. 2 ‘Elegiac’, based entirely on Polish motifs, is rarely performed, although it is not inferior to the most popular works of great symphonists representing other national schools, neither in richness of musical ideas nor in compositional technique. It is also in this work that the orchestra can shine to the fullest, showing a face of the music of the Romantic era, invariably attractive to listeners.
