Après un premier séjour en 1716, Johann Georg Pisendel (Cadolzburg, 1687- Dresde, 1755), le plus virtuose des violonistes allemands, revient à Venise à l'automne 1717. Il rencontre Vivaldi, avec lequel il entretient une relation intense et durable. Avec le Prêtre roux, le violoniste allemand perfectionne bien sûr sa technique, mais surtout, les deux hommes nouent une véritable amitié, fondée sur l'estime réciproque. Au contact de Pisendel, le style de Vivaldi devient plus virtuose, plus libre, plus « extravagant », comme si l'ornementation improvisée s'était intégrée à la ligne mélodique. Vivaldi ne lui dédie pas moins de quatre sonates, cinq concertos et une sinfonia. Ces pièces sont écrites probablement entre 1717 et 1720. C'est à Pisendel, rentré en Allemagne, que Vivaldi doit sa renommée à Dresde, qui conserve encore aujourd'hui un important fonds « Vivaldi ». Federico Guglielemo, violoniste et chef d'orchestre, spécialiste indiscuté de Vivaldi et de Tartini, se joue des difficultés techniques redoutables de ces cinq concertos, et cet album irradie la joie et la virtuosité. Johann Georg Pisendel, who later became concertmaster of the famous Dresden Court Orchestra, was fourteen years old when he first came into contact with the music of Antonio Vivaldi. He then immediately immersed himself in his scores. He copied out all of the Venetian's compositions that fell into his hands for his own use in order to practise the violin, an instrument that he himself later mastered. When he later travelled to Italy with the entourage of his lordship, he got to know the ‘prete rosso’ and the latter took such a shine to his visitor that he gave him a number of concertos and sonatas ‘fatto per M. Pisendel’ to take home with him. Five of these highly virtuosic, almost explosive concertos come together in these new recordings by Arte dell'Arco with its soloist and director Federico Guglielmo to create a rousingly inspired testament to a historic friendship between artists.
