Macbeth was rediscovered at the half of the XXth Century and, from the Sixties, he got a large success both on stage and in discography. Nevertheless, studio recordings we can actually consider "historical" are very few. Certainly this version by Decca of 1964 has all the characteristic to get this definition. Its value is due to several factors : the extraordinary conduction of Thomas Schippers, the unequalled Macbeth of Giuseppe Taddei, the Lady of Birgit Nilsson, out of reach for her expressive power, the expressive and linguistics of Giovanni Foiani and Bruno Prevedi, and last but not least the beauty of the sound Decca. Note : thie edition is no longer available since the far 1991.
