Avec plus de 150 CD à son actif, Pawel Lukaszewski est le compositeur polonais le plus joué dans le monde, surtout renommé pour ses œuvres de musique sacrée et orchestrales imposantes notamment huit symphonies monumentales. Sa musique profane dont voici le quatrième volet délaisse la démesure instrumentale et chorale au profit d’œuvres plus sereines. Le Wings Concertino pour deux flûtes et piano en trois mouvements et la Lukasonata pour flûte et piano en quatre mouvements partagent la même esthétique néoclassique marquée par un lyrisme fluide, les gazouillements de flûtes, la rêverie et une rythmique motoriste. Le Concertino doppio pour violon, alto et piano est une pièce virtuose et contrastée d’atmosphère fauréenne. Le 14e Nocturne d’une série de 15 (objet du volume 3 Musica Profana) séduit par sa beauté mélodique. Icon II pour piano forte et piano à l’origine écrit pour l’orgue est une pièce majestueuse qui semble bien peu profane en réalité. De même les trois chants aux lignes mélodiques délicates sur des textes du poète polonais Cyprian Kamil Norwid (1821-1883) sont d’une évidente sacralité (La croix et l’enfant / Ma chanson / Prière). The album continues the cycle presenting the oeuvre of this respected composer of vocal and instrumental sacred music – but in a different, secular version. The album includes chamber works featuring piano. Although in each of them the listener is surprised by the diversity of musical means of expression, Pawel Lukaszewski has his own, individual style, which consists of captivating and soothing harmonies in the extended major-minor system, a clear and logical structure of the composition, rhythm-driven factor, sudden changes in texture and key. In the double concertos, he does not favour any of the parts, prompting the musicians to look for a perfectly coherent sound. His output is a bridge between tradition and modernity; free from purely technical, virtuoso displays, he sets a high bar for performers in the search for beauty, luminous colour and a wide range of dynamics. The artists invited to participate in the recording of the album are outstanding Polish soloists and chamber musicians, whose virtuosity is once again confirmed.
