Melani Mestre l’ose mais là où j’attendais un clavecin, voici un piano moderne : autant dire que face à un orchestre discret une prise de son distante n’aide pas, un problème d’échelle surgit. Le Concerto de Narro, plein de galanteries scarlatiennes et d’effets intrigants (les timbres de vieille de l’Andante giusto pour lequel la pianiste a recomposé la partie soliste, égarée apparemment) sera une belle surprise avant le divertissement du final, empli de couleurs tendres, un rien mozartiennes. Les influences de Mozart justement, mais plus encore celles de Haydn, paraissent dans le beau Concerto lyrique de Marianna Martinez. D’ascendance espagnole, certes, mais née et morte à Vienne, et fêtée tout au long de sa vie autant comme compositrice que comme virtuose, sa fantaisie étonne, et donne envie d’en savoir plus sur son univers. De naissance madrilène, dès ses vingt ans Lisbonne sera son refuge, les portugais aimant sa musique tendre, emplie de mélodies nostalgiques qui l’ont fait comparer à Mozart, et avec raison. Melani Mestre fait bien d’ajouter au Concerto pour piano en sol majeur le Concerto pour violon dans la même tonalité, œuvre lyrique d’une envoutante beauté que défend avec poésie par l’archet musicien de Natalia Borysiuk. “Unknown” would be the best adjective at the present time to define the musical landscape embracing the concertos for piano (harpsichord) and orchestra from Spain throughout almost the whole of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th, as Spanish Classicism was emerging. ??t is the case that the survival of the Concertos which we present here for the first time, in a thorough revision and reconstruction, was most likely due to the specific location of each one of them: that by Manuel Narro, in a manuscript held in the monastery library at the Colegiata de Roncesvalles; that by Mariana Martinez, also known as Marienne von Martinez, in the musical archive of the Vienna Musikverein; and finally the concertos of José Palomino, in the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal in Lisbon. We have opted for performance on the piano in all three cases, given the early arrival of the first Cristofori piano-forte on the ??berian peninsula with the legendary castrato Farinelli at the court of Fernando V??.
