Ce nouveau volume, le quatrième, fait partie du projet Musica Warmiensis qui se propose de documenter au disque la production de musique religieuse au dix-huitième siècle dans les églises de la région de Varmie (Ermland ou Emeland) au Nord Est de la Pologne. La plupart des manuscrits sont conservés dans la bibliothèque du séminaire Hosanium et à Dobre Miasto. On y trouve dans les archives tous les genres du répertoire sacré : messes, requiem, hymnes, vêpres et litanies...etc. Une riche collection d’œuvres dont les auteurs sont polonais, tchèques, autrichiens ou encore italiens. La pièce "Festiva Agmina" qui ouvre le programme signé d’un certain Binder organiste actif à Dresde entre 1723 et 1789 donne le ton. Deux mouvements vifs encadrent un doux intermède accompagné des flûtes. Une écriture chorale et instrumentale efficace et puissamment évocatrice. La Messe qui suit est l’œuvre de Johan Melchior Dreyer (1747-1824) musicien qui fut très populaire en son temps et dont l’œuvre abondante essaima dans toute l’Europe. L’œuvre manque un peu de caractérisation et pêche par une certaine uniformisation de l’écriture. Lambert Kraus (1728-1790) auteur de la dernière pièce, une Litanie à la Vierge Marie fut abbé et compositeur dans un monastère de Bavière. Sa musique est plaisante et rappelle par imitation les premières compositions religieuses du très jeune Mozart. (Jérôme Angouillant)

On the CD Musica Warmiensis vol. 4, we can discover further sacred pieces from the second half of the 18th and first half of the 19th centuries, performed by church music ensembles active in the historic region of Warmia. Scores from that period were found in the collections of the Library of the Higher Theological Seminary of the Warmia Metropolis “Hosianum” in Olsztyn by the Reverend Father Tomasz Garwolinski, who is also the originator and main implementing party of the project. These are mostly sacred vocal and instrumental compositions, but also songs and symphonies. The pieces are written for an ensemble known from other religious centres in Poland, including a four-part choir, soloists, a group of string and wind instruments and an organ – a total of from a few to a maximum of seventeen musicians. The album features world premiere recordings of joyful compositions, full of vitality, which – in excellent interpretations of the orchestra and soloists – will certainly again captivate listeners with their radiant tones.
