Pour Dorian, son fils chéri, disparu au printemps 2022, Peter Wispelwey avait assemblé un premier hommage avec des gravures qu’il avait peut-être pu entendre. Cette fois le Tombeau est réel. Retournant au studio d’enregistrement en décembre 2022, Peter Wispelwey y sera seul avec son violoncelle, tête à tête où inévitablement la présence de Dorian l’accompagne, 5e Suite de Bach ourlée d’une nostalgie qui se heurte au ton ardent de l’œuvre, Troisième Suite de Britten dont l’immense Passacaille est un tombeau en soi, et puis la grande méditation au centre de la Sonate de Kodaly, ajout majeur à la discographie du violoncelliste.
