Khachaturian Erkin Concertos Pour Piano Onay Serebrier - Gram98025 - Gramola - Classical

Une œuvre arménienne, une autre turque. La musique du compositeur turc Ulvi Cemal Erkin est attachante. Les couleurs et rythmes de ses partitions utilisent modérément des éléments du folklore. L’écriture est raffinée, combinant à la technique apprise à Paris notamment auprès de Nadia Boulanger, l’influence marquante de compositeurs turcs dont le plus remarquable fut Ahmed Adnan Saygun. La "Danse Rhapsodie" demeure sa pièce la plus célèbre. Le Concerto pour piano dont ce disque fut le premier enregistrement, en 2011, enrichit notre connaissance du musicien. Erkin composa le concerto à la demande d’Alfred Cortot qui visita la Turquie au début des années quarante. L’originalité des thèmes repose souvent sur des rythmes de danses décantées. Les idées secondaires multiplient les dialogues chambristes entre l’orchestre et le soliste. Voilà une musique sensuelle et pleine d’énergie, digne d’un Prokofiev "orientalisant" ! Le Concerto pour piano de Khatchatourian est un morceau de bravoure composé en 1936. Nous retrouvons Prokofiev qui aurait conseillé le musicien d’origine arménienne. Le jeu à la fois incisif et libre de Gülsin Onay est bien soutenu par la formation de Bilkent, la meilleure de Turquie, avec ses solistes de première force comme au pupitre de la clarinette basse dans le très nostalgique mouvement central. The piano concertos by Aram Khachaturian and Ulvi Cemal Erkin are exemplary works for the affinity and contrariness of the art music of Armenia and Turkey built on the ground of native musical traditions. Both are pianistically demanding, effective and - in their drama and atmosphere - immediately comprehensible and riveting compositions. Khachaturian's piano concerto quickly won its place in the world from the Soviet Union thanks to Van Cliburn's performances and is currently one of the most popular concertos in Asian countries. Erkin's concerto, with its much tighter dimensions, is hardly known outside Turkey until now and is released here as a first commercially available recording. The pianist Gülsin Onay is one of the most important Turkish classical musicians. She has already recorded the two piano concertos by Ahmed Adnan Saygun, together with Erkin Turkey's most outstanding composer, and performs internationally as a soloist. José Serebrier, an US-American of Uruguyan descent, studied with Stokowski, Szell, Dorati and Monteux. He is one of the great legends among conductors of the older generation, one of the most documented maestri on vinyl and CD, and also a remarkable phenomenon as a composer. As a musician, he is considered the spiritual successor of his former mentor Leopold Stokowski.
