In terms of musical language, some see Jerzy Gablenz’s roots in the works of the neo-romantic Polish composer Mieczyslaw Karlowicz, though pointing out that ‘the author’s works have also been influenced by the works of French and German composers (‘Czas’ magazine, 23.06.1938). Others state, that despite Gablenz ‘valued especially R. Strauss, his works were rather conservative’ (J. Gwiazdomorski). That did not prevent him from reaching the ‘beginning of impressionistic polytonalities’ (H. Boruta, ‘Slowo Powszechne’ magazine, 7.04.1955). Jerzy Gablenz’s works, including his songs, are characterized by melodiousness and ‘an incredibly suggestive music’ (W. Dzieduszycki, “Zycie Warszawy’, 13.05.1955). Gablenz is capable of expressing ‘with highly artistic means the feelings and experiences, moods and images’ as well as ‘convinces and moves the audience, often agitating with unexpected force’ (J. Michalowski, “Dziennik Zachodni’, 7.04. 1955). After the world premiere of the Piano concerto op. 25, which took place in the National Theatre on November 11th 1977 in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), the pianist Manuel Rueda noted that despite ‘the piece being composed at the confluence of various styles: romantic, impressionistic and contemporary, still it is arranged with finesse, creating a coherent unity’. That is how Jerzy Gablenz managed to create his own individual and identifiable style, which continues to enrapture and emotionally move increasingly broader circles of recipients of his music.
