The young international Pacific Quartet Vienna has chosen as repertoire focus works of the First and Second Viennese Schools. Its second CD (after “Becoming – Being – Passing Away”, Gramola 99107) presents “Sounds from Pannonia”, with Haydn 's String Quartet Op. 54/2, the second from the group of “Tost–Quartets”, Bartok’ s 2nd String Quartet (in which the composer used the impressions of his four-year research on Pannonian songs and dances during the First World War) and Brahms’s Quartet Op. 51/2 (as can be observed in many of his works, no composer of musical history was so obsessively under the spell of the Pannonian idiom like Brahms) are representative of the music of the landscape between Vienna, Burgenland, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and parts of Slovakia.
