 Le récital que propose ici le jeune guitariste Finbarr Malafronte regroupe des compositions pour guitare du compositeur Alexandre Tansman (1896-1986), pianiste et compositeur prolixe qui composa pour de nombreuses formations et instruments différents. Les œuvres choisies ont pour point commun d'évoquer la Pologne natale du compositeur, de manière plus ou moins explicite, en témoigne son " hommage à Chopin " (1966), dont la trajectoire de vie agitée par le piano et la double nationalité franco-polonaise en font une évidence, ou encore les "Quattro tempi du mazurka" et la "suite in modo Polonico" . Cette dernière n'hésite pas à puiser dans le folklore polonais mais on décèle aussi plus globalement dans l'oeuvre de Tansman une grande fascination pour le néo classicisme, accessible et érudit, lui donnant un aspect intemporel. Le talent de Tansman de manqua d ailleurs pas d'éveiller l'intérêt de Segovia lui-même qui lui demanda d'ajouter une partie à sa "Cavatina" et qui ouvre ici le récital. Finbarr Malafronte aborde avec beaucoup de naturel et de simplicité cette musique riche et exigeante, dotée d un sens guitaristique aigu. On sera partagé sur le choix radical d un enregistrement très fortement réverbéré qui donne un univers sonore à l'ensemble mais gomme aussi souvent de nombreux détails. (Jérôme Leclair) This album consists of solo guitar compositions by Aleksander Tansman. The main inspiration behind the Polish composer’s guitar works was his contact with the artistry of Andrés Segovia, the virtuoso who brought the guitar into the concert halls of the world. The album’s repertoire includes a number of cycles made up of short miniatures, with the only exception being the Variations on a Theme by Alexander Scriabin. Tansman retains the hallmarks of his musical language here – such as the compact form of the miniatures, extended tonality, and above all, a fondness for neoclassical aesthetics. At the same time, his guitar compositions feature numerous inspirations drawn from traditional Polish, Italian, and Spanish music. Dance rhythms are often present, interwoven with passages of a lyrical, contemplative character. Finbarr Malafronte is an artist who has performed on many prestigious stages across Europe and the Americas, for whom the encounter with Tansman’s music marks another step in promoting new and lesser-known works.
