 Le pianiste autrichien d’origine croate, Dejan Lazic, a construit depuis une vingtaine d’années une belle discographie pour l’éditeur hollandais Channel Classics. Il fait une infidélité à ce dernier pour le projet annoncé de 3 CD consacrés à des concertos de Mozart – dont Lazic a écrit lui-même les cadences – avec un chef néerlandaias et l’orchestre de la ville natale de Grieg. Le soliste semble vouloir se démarquer systématiquement de ceux de ses confrères qui jouent un Mozart élégant, précautionneux. Il privilégie l’éloquence, la liberté d’un chant inépuisable, formidablement secondé par les musiciens norvégiens. Dans l’adagio du 23e concerto, il rejoint un Wilhelm Kempff dans la simplicité de l’énoncé, la justesse du tempo, la pudeur de l’expression, avant de lâcher les chevaux dans un finale véritablement « allegro assai ». Le 14e concerto bénéficie du même traitement, notamment dans son 3e mouvement qui sonne souvent appliqué, voire scolaire, sous d’autres doigts. L’ajout d’un arrangement concertant de la plume du pianiste du rondo de la sonate K 333 comme le recours à ses propres cadences dans les deux concertos ne font que confirmer que l’on tient en Dejan Lazic un Mozartien de première importance et avec cet enregistrement un indispensable de toute discothèque (Jean-Pierre Rousseau) The concept behind our present undertaking, the Mozart Piano Concertos CD-trilogy, is to bring together concertos of Mozart’s miscellaneous composing and performing periods, styles, techniques, and instrumentations side by side, thus to deeply examine and throughout his travels more closely explore his many creative phases within this genre. That is linked further with an encore-like single work on each CD, yet the additional connecting link between these initially planned six piano concertos is the Cadenzas & Lead-ins which I have composed myself. Me and conductor de Vriend, partnering here together with the wonderful Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, we took a great care of the needs of Mozart’s music that was of course written for an instrument with a different timbre and dynamic range than the modern concert grand, thus carefully balancing the methods of playing: voicing, phrasing, articulation, rhetoric, and dynamics during solo, accompanied solo and tutti.
