C'est davantage Henryk le violoniste que Josef son frère le pianiste que nous connaissons de la famille Wieniawski. Le label polonais Acte Préalable a déjà sorti plusieurs enregistrements de ce dernier surtout consacrés au clavier. Pour cette production, c'est le chant qui est à l'honneur, et plus particulièrement les mélodies avec piano sur des textes de Müller, Hugo, Goethe, Heine... Si la plupart de ces pièces chantées alternativement en polonais ou en allemand se rattachent bien au romantisme XIXe, on tendra l'oreille pour les 6 duos soprano/mezzo, dont le charme et l'inventivité ne peuvent que séduire. Les chanteurs polonais sont tous bien à leur place dans leur interprétation, et leur timbre de voix tout à fait adéquat. Bel équilibre avec le pianiste accompagnateur. (Nicolas Mesnier-Nature)

The works of Józef Wieniawski are characterized by great diversity in many aspects. The pianist from Lublin in his many compositions does not shy away from references to the music of Frederic Chopin, who, like him, spent most of his life in emigration, but also from a national Polish lifeforce which manifested in works with a dance character, of which the polonaises and mazurkas are at the forefront. Especially during the later period of Wieniawski’s compositional activity, we see more frequency to romantic lyric-expressions forms, including impromptu, reverie, and nocturne. Finally, inseparable in the works of the Pole are these vocal-instrumental works – which gives us a new opportunity to build our knowledge and understanding of the composer’s achievements. Works, which were created at various stages within his activity, so that we can observe the changes that his compositional style has developed across the years. The presented CD is not only an opportunity to get to know these forgotten works by Józef Wieniawski, but is another step in discovering the vocal lyrical pieces of Polish composers.
