Joseph Christoph Kessler was a German pianist, composer and teacher of romantic period. Kessler spent many years in Warsaw and in Galicia. In years 1820–1826 he worked as a teacher of music at home of count Potocki in Lvov. He played concerts in Cracow and Warsaw. In 1829–1830 he was a teacher in Warsaw, he also organized chamber concerts, in which sometimes played F. Chopin. In 1835 he settled down in Lvov. In 1855 he moved to Vienna where he was very respected by the society. To the end of his life his connections with Polish musicians and composers were very strong. He used to promote Polish artists in Vienna. We may say that Kessler was a man of several cultures. That German composer felt very well among Polish people, then in a multicultured Vienna. He was a friend of F. Chopin and F. Liszt. Liszt after many years used to say, how much he and Chopin liked the studies of J. Kessler.
