The Execution of Stenka Razin by of Shostakovich is a cantata for baritone, chorus and orchestra, written in 1964 and performed for the first time in Moscow and directed by precisely from Kondrashin. It is based on the sentence of the Cossack leader Stenka Razin, a revolutionary champion of the oppressed and peasants of the seventeenth Century. The text are by Evegenij Yevtushenko, one of the major Russian poets of the twentieth century. The recording of this work are very few, and we are here proposing the version that Kondrashin perdormed two year sfter the first in Moscow. For the style and the intent it is assimilable to the thirteenth symphony of 1962, whose text is by the same poet. W ith this very rare work, we present the historical interpretations by Kondrashin of the Fourth and the Ninth Symphony.
