Les trois concertos présentés sur ce disque par le Witold Lutoslawski Chamber Philharmonic in Lomza partagent une origine (la Pologne) et une esthétique (le néoclassicisme du XXe siècle) communes. Le Concerto pour guitare et orchestre à cordes de Marcin Blazewicz (1953-) a tout d’une symphonie concertante : même si elle se voit attribuer plusieurs fonctions importantes, la guitare n’est pas autonome comme pourrait l’être un instrument solo (sauf peut-être dans le troisième mouvement) : tantôt responsable du motif principal, tantôt arbitre des sections mélodiques, tantôt en charge de la coordination des plans harmoniques. Renommé au pays pour sa musique chorale sacrée, Pawel Lukaszewski (1968-) travaille à une écriture résolument antimoderne, comme en témoigne son « Trinity Concerto » pour saxophone soprano et orchestre à cordes : accords consonants et répétés des cordes dans le premier mouvement (Larghetto), vif motif au saxophone qui structure le deuxième mouvement (Agitato) et épilogue retissant habilement la toile des mouvements précédents pour la dernière partie (Largo). Le « Concerto Lendinum » pour violon, violoncelle et orchestre à cordes, op. 44 de Slawomir Czarnecki (1949-) s’inspire, avec une certaine ingéniosité, du folklore de la région de Lublin, mêlant vivacité et lamentation. The album of the Witold Lutoslawski Chamber Philharmonic in Lomza, devoted to contemporary instrumental concertos, makes it possible to confront the aesthetics of three Polish composers, highly regarded today. Each of the pieces recorded on this album is maintained in relation to the others in a somewhat related (corresponding to the 20th-century neoclassicism) postmodern aesthetics, which undoubtedly facilitates the perception of the whole material. Although the presented concertos in no way refer to the musical tradition of the avantgarde, many of the applied compositional resources (ingenious instruments, varied means responsible for the form’s architecture) testify to the individualism of these three works.
