Michal Spisak est un compositeur et pianiste polonais qui a passé la plupart de sa vie en France : il meurt à Paris en 1965, passe par Voiron en Isère pendant l'occupation nazie, après avoir quitté la Pologne au passage à l’âge adulte. La comparaison avec un autre compositeur polonais bien célèbre ayant croisé la France s'arrête ici et c'est Nadia Boulanger, (excusez du peu) de qui il fut proche qui le souligne, en parlant de lui non comme un musicien polonais, mais comme … un musicien. La personnalité musicale bien trempée de Michal Spizak mérite en effet ce recueil de musique pour piano et musique de chambre. Ardemment défendue par sa pianiste interprète Anna Czaicka-Jackewicz, qui signe également un livret d’explications très précis et éclairant, on relève une musique saillante, de grande vivacité rythmique, ardue, en harmonie avec son « Heimat » (la Pologne) et ses influences (comme Stravinski) mais qui regarde toujours loin et droit devant. Le concerto pour deux pianos, dont l'écriture orchestrale du piano est remarquable, termine par une sidérante fugue au thème piqué, voire frappé, d'une grande vivacité rythmique, proposant ainsi comme une fresque pointilliste transcendante. The music of Michal Spisak was much more recognizable and available to a wide audience during the composer’s lifetime than nowadays. This album contains three compositions of this artist: the Piano Sui t e (a p i e ce wi th a t ransparent texture in which Spisak clearly refers to the Baroque tradition), Sonata for violin and piano (for a change, very rich, diverse texture, full of violin dyad passages, varied in terms of harmony and sound colour) and Concerto for two pianos (very spectacular work, extremely diverse, as far as the sound is concerned; highly demanding for the pianists). The aforementioned pieces are a cross-section of the compositional techniques typical of Michal Spisak’s musical language; they also introduce a whole range of neoclassical features confirming the composer’s stylistic affiliation. The music of Michal Spisak broadens the horizons of the musical imagination of both the performer and the recipient-listener, and this album attempts to show its phenomenon, consisting in expressing naturalness and straightforwardness using an extremely wide range of various compositional techniques.
