Sarah O'Brien, harpe

Sarah O’Brien a décidé d’enregistrer l’intégralité des impromptus pour harpe complétée d’œuvres pour harpe solo telles que la Sonate d’Hindemith, la « Sarabande et Toccata » de Rota et une Sonatine de Mortari. Se glissent entre ces œuvres du XXème siècle quelques respirations baroques originellement écrites pour clavecin et astucieusement arrangées par la harpiste telles le « Tic-Toc-Choc » de Couperin, « Le rappel des oiseaux » et « La poule » de Rameau ainsi qu’une courte Sonate de Scarlatti. Le répertoire pour harpe seule n’étant pas si diffusé, on découvre avec intérêt ces compositions. Si les harpistes et les mélomanes amateurs de l’instrument sont probablement familiers des impromptus de Fauré et Pierné ouvrant et clôturant l’album, les autres pièces seront de délicieuses découvertes. Chaque compositeur a saisi au mieux les possibilités expressives de l’instrument mettant son charme féérique au service d’une admirable musicalité alliant finesse, élégance et inventivité. Chacune des pièces dévoile des charmes merveilleux sublimés par le timbre gracieux, pétillant, lumineux et sensuel de la harpe qui trouve en Sarah O’Brien une interprète de référence. On apprécie là un répertoire peu commun et un instrument aux appréciables qualités solistes trop méconnues. Un beau moment de musique ! (Laurent Mineau)

The two great Romantic harp impromptus by Gabriel Pierné and Gabriel Fauré, highlights of the genre, mark the beginning and end of this very special musical journey through the centuries. Between these Romantic "parentheses", we discover worlds of the eighteenth and twentieth centuries. Sarah O'Brien has arranged Baroque music by Couperin, Rameau, and Scarlatti for her instrument, while also presenting original works written before and after the Second World War - and which themselves hark back to the Baroque era: Jean Cras, Paul Hindemith, Joaquín Rodrigo, and Guy Ropartz draw on old forms such as the canzone, toccata, and sarabande, infusing them with new life. A diverse compendium of the solo literature for harp - with a variety of sonorities that is both surprising and refreshing.
