 Karl Adolf Lorenz, a German composer, organist, conductor. He began his musical education quite early. One of his first teachers for F. Liszt’s pupil – Eugun Nebe, meanwhile his first compositorial role model was C. M. von Weber. At the age of 16 Lorenz moved with his family to Szczecin, where he continued his education at the St. Mary’s Middleshcool and simultaneously developed his musical talent under the watchful eye of Carl Loewe. After 1857 he began his musical studies in Berlin, learning counterpoint, harmony, instrumentation, piano and composing with Friedrich Kiel,. Lorenz was the director of the Music Society in Strasund, and in 1866 returned to Szczecin, replacing Carl Loewe as the metropolitan music director as well as cantor and organist at the Saint Jacob’s church. He was active in Szczecin for 44 years, during that time he manage to establish Szczecin’s Music Society, initiate the construction of the Concert House and developed a broad scale of concert activity around the city. Karl Adolf Lorenz’s works are extremely diverse, and around 100 opuses were published by print. Apart from educational and occasional works, he also composed scenic and concert works, piano and organ music as well as songs. Many of his songs and vocal-instrumental works were composed with the idea of broadening Szczecin’s Music Society’s repertoire.
