The CD Accosphere is a premiere recording of music by contemporary composers for accordion duo, sometimes accompanied by other instruments. Most of the compositions were inspired by the main performers themselves – a Polish-Slovak duo composed of Grzegorz Palus and Alena Budzinakova – whose artistic mission has become the exploration and promotion of both accordion classics and contemporary works. The titles of the recordings reveal extra-musical inspiration. Sometimes it is the poetry of Wislawa Szymborska (In a Moment by Peter Machajdik), stories from classical Greek mythology (Of Sisyphus and Prometheus – two instructive myths for accordion duo by Volodymyr Runchak) or stories of heroes (both from the distant past, e.g. St. Lawrence from The Tears of St. Lawrence by Renate Stivrina or Jerzy Popieluszko from Testament of Wounds by Grzegorz Majka). Only one of the compositions (Quintet for accordion duo and woodwind trio by Tyler Versluis) refers to a more classic form. However, the main protagonist of the recording is the sound – not limited to the already impressive sonic spectrum of two accordions, but enriched with a human voice, a reed trio, a string quartet or the organ. In addition to the accordion duo, the recording features the following artists: Airis String Quartet, Waclaw Golonka (organ), Magda Niedbala-Solarz (mezzo-soprano), Stanislaw Duda (baritone), Monika Sek (oboe), Piotr Lato (clarinet), Damian Lipien (bassoon) and Wieslaw Ochwat (implementer-sonorist).
