 Commençons par rappeler la différence entre Frottoles et Madrigaux. Les premiers sont la forme antique des seconds. Ils reposent sur des textes en langue vulgaire, de tradition orale, issus de contes ou de récits guerriers et sont accompagnés au luth peu ornementé. En vogue jusqu’au début du XVIème siècle en Italie, ils furent progressivement remplacés par les madrigaux qui, eux, reposent sur des textes poétiques élaborés, accompagnés par une ligne de luth sophistiquée. Soulignant le texte avec un souci constant du cantabile, ils permettent aux interprètes d’exprimer virtuosité et talent. La soprano légère Barbara Zanichelli et le luthiste Luca Pianca (par ailleurs co-fondateur d’Il Giardono Armonico) sont des spécialistes du répertoire baroque. Il nous offre une anthologie de frottoles des meilleurs compositeurs (Tromboncino, Mantovano…) complétées d’œuvres des meilleurs madrigalistes d’obédience italienne (Cara, Festa, Verdelot…). Le duo d’interprètes fonctionne brillamment, la voix claire et expressive de la soprano se mariant parfaitement aux lignes de luth toutes en légèreté et virtuosité. La prise de son très claire et naturelle rend hommage à ce petit récital dont la durée (50 minutes environ) et la variété de style évitent le piège de la monotonie pour nous offrir la surprise d’une sympathique et belle découverte. (Thierry Jacques Collet) An interval of eighty years separates O triumphale diamante by Giorgio Luppato and Allala pia calia by Orlando di Lasso, compositions that mark the temporal limits of the anthology of frottole and madrigals proposed in this collection. The first was a piece dedicated to Duke Ercole I d’Este, the same for whom Josquin Desprez wrote the famous Missa Hercules Dux Ferrariae, performed in 1502 on the occasion of the wedding of his son Alfonso I and Lucrezia Borgia. It is a four voices composition, with an encomiastic text in a style that was still of the late fifteenth century, without specific indications on instrumentation, which in the custom of the time varied according to the availability of musicians and money and the acoustic characteristics of the place where the music was performed. Here we listen the melody embellished with many flourishes in an intimate interpretation returning to his essential dimension. The second belongs to the vocal moresche genre: divertimenti often in the form of serenades, dialogues between a woman and a Moorish slave, characterised by the use of a language issued from italian dialects, filled with caricature expressions from the Moresque: all this produces a nonsensical text and lively rhythmic formulae which allows the singer to express technical and interpretative virtuosity. Orlando di Lasso, one of the most prolific composers in all the history of music, wrote about ten of them, which were published for the first time in Paris in 1581 by Le Roy et Ballard: the Libro di Villanelle, Moresche, et altre Canzoni, a 4, 5, 6, et 8 voci.
