The composer and viola player Walter Fähndrich has had an exceptional career marked by numerous extraordinary artistic performances. After finishing his classical music studies, he soon worked out his own style of composing and an individual technique of interpreting. He writes solos for the viola (Viola Solo) as well as compositions for radio plays, for the theater and the ballet. For many years, he has also devoted himself to free improvisation and has created his own type of contemporary improvised chamber music. Furthermore, he has been working with electronic musical instruments for twenty years; he creates new electroacoustic spaces and gave rise to a number of unique sound installations for interior and exterior spaces in Europe and the U.S. Unit Records now publishes a CD featuring seven electroacoustic pieces as a reference to Walter Fähndrich's work about the musical space. "Spaces" is a virtual sound installation recorded in the studio with purely electronic sounds - an abstract, suggestive sequence of musical spaces which entirely captures the listener's attention. There is no drama, no evolution, no story. The music transforms time into space; space one can travel through without moving. A magic place in which silence comes into ist own and reveals us to ourselves.
