American pianist and bandleader Carmen Cavallaro (1913-1989) was the darling of the postwar cocktail set, immensely popular with diners and dancers at the upper class hotels and ballrooms of New York and Chicago. His brand of sweet, swinging dance music and decorative style of playing gained him a string of successful records and the label “Poet of the Piano”. He also caused a stir providing the soundtrack playing for the big film hit of 1956, The Eddy Duchin Story, a career highlight. Retrospective’s centenary tribute offers a crosssection of the finest work of his mid-50s heyday.
