Along with the world’s most renowned vocal ensemble – the Singphoniker – the Taipei Male Choir (TMC) led by Nieh Yen-Hsiang is now presenting contemporary pieces for soloists and male choir and for organ or percussion instruments. The TMC already has three CD releases with a similar repertoire to its credit, and the first and third of these productions won the Taiwan Golden Melody Award Interpretation Prize in 2011. »Through darkness to the light« is the motto of this album employing musical means to express a wide range of elements and ideas: dualism and oppositions, Christianity and its rites, esoteric numerology and Zen, multiculturalism and existential concerns. Metaphorically, the three works featured on the album deal with the coexistence of darkness and light in the world and the perennial quest for purposefulness in human existence – until it finally reaches its heavenly goal, which is filled with love and brightness.
