L'allemand Stefan Winter, fondateur du label Winter&Winter est par ailleurs un compositeur autodidacte qui s'intéresse aux différentes formes de création visuelle : photo, installation et vidéo. Son projet « Poem of a cell » est une installation sonore, musicale et vidéo baptisée « Tryptich of love and ecstasy ». Elle se compose de trois écrans qui interagissent à partir de sons enregistrés, de musique live (présence de quatorze musiciens sur la scène) et d'un flux d'images qui défilent sur chaque écran. Un ensemble pluridisciplinaire donc et très œcuménique, se donnant pour objectif d'établir un pont plus sensoriel qu'intellectuel entre l'Islam, le Judaïsme et le Christianisme autour de deux thèmes centraux : l'Amour Divin et la Figure Féminine. Stefan Winter a donc choisi trois poèmes mystiques (Song of songs, The Flowing light of the Godhead, Unity with the divine) un corpus d'images et de vidéos (visibles sur YouTube) et une sélection d’œuvres musicale suffisamment emblématique pour évoquer plus largement l'Amour et l'Extase, l'essentielle communion sacrée face à l'inexorabilité de la destinée humaine. Parmi les ambiances sonores, des voix murmurantes alla Max Richter, des sons de cloches, des airs traditionnels, et bien sur des must classiques revisités ici façon cross-over : extraits de Requiem (Mozart et Fauré) Haydn (La Création) Mahler et Vivaldi, arrangés par le japonais Fumio Yasuda, et le pianiste de jazz Uri Caine, tous deux familiers du label. Quelques pages de Gesualdo, De Lassus et William Byrd, interprétées suavement par le groupe vocal Exaudi, complètent l'ensemble. Musique et images sont ici prétextes à une forme de transe, de voyage onirique et fantasmé qui nous transporte vers une dimension à la fois intime et universelle du monde. Plonger dans l'univers imaginé par le démiurge allemand constitue en tout cas une excellente manière de vous évader de la torpeur du quotidien. (Jérôme Angouillant)

In 2017 Stefan Winter presents at the African film festival Ziff in Zanzibar, Tanzania, at the Jazz Festival in San Sebastian, Spain, at the Dr. Hecht Arts Center in Haifa, Israel, and at Rathausgalerie Kunsthalle Munich, Germany his sound- and 3-channel-film-installation Poem of a Cell. In the second part of 2018 Poem of a Cell will be shown at Maerkisches Museum in Witten, Germany (from October 12th through January 27th), at the international art festival FAB in Bordeaux (in October), France and at OAG (in November) in Tokyo, Japan. In Witten, which is world wide known for the festival “Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik“ Stefan Winter will present besides the sound- and 3-channel-film-installation Poem of a Cell a 8-channel-sound-installation with the voices of Exaudi and Schlagquartett Köln. Winter & Winter brings out 3 CDs (Vol 1, 2 and 3) with recorded works and sounds produced for Poem of a Cell. Uri Caine set in music the first chapter of “The Song of Songs“ from the Jewish Tanakh written for Exaudi and a gospel piece with the title “Shine“ for jazz ensemble. Besides these compositions and further arrangements by Uri Caine works by William Byrd, Joseph Haydn, Orlando di Lasso and Gustav Mahler can be discovered in outstanding recordings of classical and experimental music. Volume 2 will focus on the Christian mystic Mechthild of Magdeburg and Volume 3 on the Islamic Sufis Rabi’a of Basra. All three works are based on the unifying theme that brings Judaism, Christianity and Islam together and bridges all their differences: love, ecstasy and, ultimately, the unification with the divine love. It is about desire and spite, longing and disgust, violence and lenity, destruction and salvation, separation and unification, innocence and guilt, permission and suppression, woman and man. In Poem of a Cell reality and fantasy merge seamlessly. It is a stunning journey into the life of mankind.
