Trois heures de tango non-stop ça vous dit ? Voilà un coffret qui tombe à pic pour célébrer le centenaire de la naissance d'Astor Piazzolla, fondateur du Tango Nuevo. La violoniste néerlandaise Isabelle van der Keulen revient dans ce triple album à ces premiers émois musicaux. Elle découvrit très jeune la musique d'Astor Piazzolla et fut fascinée par son mélange d'écriture et d'improvisation. Entre 2013 et 2017 elle enregistre cette anthologie de Tangos accompagnée du bandonéon de Christian Gerber qui signe ici quelques arrangements, d'Ulrike Payer au piano et de Rüdiger Ludwig à la contrebasse, indispensable soutien rythmique et harmonique. On découvrira là toute la variété d'expression du compositeur qui, bien loin de se cantonner au Tango, expérimenta bien d'autre modes de composition auprès de Ginastera et de Nadia Boulanger lorsqu'il séjourna à Paris. Piazzolla traversa d'ailleurs dans sa carrière de musicien diverses périodes créatrices dont on retrouve les traces ici de plages en plages. Notons que les quatre instruments se partagent de façon égale et avec un plaisir communicatif l'interprétation de ces trois cycles : Tango, Grand Tango et Angeles y Diablos. (Jérôme Angouillant)

A series of high-quality concerts in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, at the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival, the Delft Festival, among others, launched the success story of the Isabelle van Keulen Ensemble, which has since become well established on international concert stages and festivals. The subsequent recording of three successful CDs testifies to the success story, the vast repertoire, and the versatility of the ensemble. From the very beginning, the Isabelle van Keulen Ensemble has been dazzling its audiences through its depth of musical expression, its technical brilliance, and the simultaneous mixture of melancholy and severity which is so typical of the Tango Nuevo, pairing great joy in playing with intimacy.
