Transcription in music is a way of translating a musical text from one instrument to another that has been known for centuries. A flagship example is, for example, the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, which is very often performed today on the piano instead of on early instruments, and also in arrangements for other contemporary instruments, chamber ensembles and orchestral ensembles.Largely due to its short history, the saxophone has in its repertoire treasury a relatively large number of arrangements of works originally intended for other instruments. This includes works from all historical eras, beginning with the Renaissance. Original saxophone repertoire has also been created since the early days of the saxophone. At first modest, as its popularity grew from the 1930s onwards, it became increasingly valuable and rich, until its avalanche of ’production’ at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Despite the stabilisation of the canon of classical saxophone repertoire, interest in the works of the old masters has not waned and many performers reach for this kind of literature for violin, cello, piano or wind instruments. Most of the arrangements are of foreign works and are made by foreign artists. This CD contains small works by Polish world-renowned and lesser-known or almost forgotten composers. The recordings were made at different times by the excellent saxophonist Dariusz Samól and two outstanding pianists, Urszula Szyrynska and Ewa Ruszala.
