Un récital consacré à la « liberté intérieure », un concept assez fumeux mais qui a l’avantage d’être attrape-tout. Ouverture avec le Grand Sourd, dont la créativité ne fut jamais aussi forte qu’une fois qu’il fut muré bien malgré lui dans le silence. Etape suivante, avec Schubert, pas le plus fréquenté certes, mais le plus intime, à l’exception du Gruppe aus dem Tartarus, monument dont on se demande ce qu’il vient faire là. Sacrifice à la mode avec la compositrice oubliée, ici Amy Beach, dont les mélodies sonnent comme du Schumann, mais sans ses abîmes et avec une curieuse grandiloquence. Le romantisme tardif de Josef Marx convient bien à la voix gorgée de couleurs et au timbre beurre et miel du jeune baryton suisse Äneas Humm, qui a toutes les qualités techniques d’un grand récitaliste, sauf une et pas des moindres… la mezza voce. Un peu ennuyeux dans un genre qui appelle l’intériorité et les demi-teintes. Doriana Tchakarova délivre un très beau récital de piano sans toujours se préoccuper de son soliste, qui à l’instar de beaucoup de jeunes artistes doués, se grise de sa beauté vocale en oublient quelque peu l’expressivité. Deux excellents musiciens que l’on aimerait réentendre dans un programme plus cohérent et mieux maîtrisé. (Olivier Gutierrez)

Rarely performed Lied repertoire of the musical Romantic period. How does one achieve inner freedom? The acclaimed and award-winning baritone Äneas Humm and pianist Doriana Tchakarova explore this question musically on their new album "Libertas". They explore rarely heard Lied repertoire from the Romantic period and the 20th century by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Amy Beach and Joseph Marx. To be truly artistically free requires courage, will and independence. The path to inner freedom led the composers who were brought together for this album partly into solitude and required sacrifices from them, partly they were recognised authorities in their individuality. On the one hand, it was the personal path of life that wrestled with freedom, on the other hand, the songs approach the subject through their content. In this way, the great theme of freedom can be heard here in numerous facets and shows that individual independence is not only an internal matter, but also manifests itself externally.
