 Somptueux ! La notice due à l’un des interprètes le rappelle, la Bibliothèque Ducale de la famille d’Este regorge de partitions pour la plupart dormantes… Italico Splendore semble donc s’être lancé dans un projet au long cours en décidant d’y fouiller. En attendant, Tactus distille les enregistrements de leur « Projet Vitali » : après l’op. 14 en février, voici les « sonate a due violini » op. 2. Sorte de chaînon manquant entre la traditionnelle sonate d’église et les futures productions de Corelli et consorts, la sonate façon Vitali regorge de surprises… difficile d’en rendre compte sans « spoiler » cette dimension de l’écoute ! Passé l’Allegro introductif de la Sonata I, à la vraie ambiance de « sonata da chiesa », on ne cesse de s’étonner : qualité du dialogue des 2 violons (partout, dont les échanges d’ornements de l’allegro 1, Sonata VI…), surgissement de danses échevelées (mouvement médian, Sonata V), fins suspendues ou irrésolues (Sonate IV et V), jeux de timbres (formidable Grave introductif de la Sonata III au dialogue cordes pincées/cordes frottées avant que…), jeux d’intervalles et de dissonances (Grave de la Sonata VII). Si le vocabulaire est limité (les gammes descendantes, éventuellement chromatiques, des mouvements les plus sombres), il est utilisé de façon très inventive et toujours au profit de l’expression (pathétique Sonata VIII). Mais pouvait-il en aller autrement d’un élève de l’étrange Cazzati ? Interprètes parfaits et inspirés, prise de son au même niveau : immanquable... la concurrence (Cozzolino/Semperconsort) ne fait pas le poids. Thanks to Duke Francesco ii’s fondness for the violin, music became an essential element in the most important events at the Este court, such as receptions,weddings and official visits of foreign sovereigns.These were the occasions in which the Duke displayed all his magnificence.Modena stands out for the abundance of its collection of musical documents in the Biblioteca Estense: the library is a real mine, largely unexplored so far.This consideration gave rise to the idea of making this beautiful, extraordinarily modern music available to those who are “pursuing” culture and art. So our goal is to promote a rediscovery of the enormous heritage preserved in the Biblioteca Estense, by carrying out a meticulous study of the sources of the works of the composers who were active at the Este Court in Modena, transcribing them into modern notation and critical editions, and producing monographic recordings of them.The first step consisted in the study and recording of the instrumental works of Giovanni BattistaVitali. In this second of 6 cds dedicated to his music preserved at the Estense Library of Modena, the baroque group Italico Splendore is introducing us to the sonatas for two violins and continuo op. 2 that, due to their destination (for both chamber and church), are characterized by a brilliant and lively score, anticipating the concerting style that would have emerged a generation later, thanks to Arcangelo Corelli and AntonioVivaldi.
