Un concert du Nouvel An sans valses de Vienne ? C’est possible à la Fenice avec un programme symphonique et lyrique privilégiant les splendeurs musicales italiennes. Daniel Harding débute par la lumineuse Symphonie "Italienne" de Mendelssohn (1833) qu’il conduit avec élégance et fluidité. Suivent l’Ouverture des "Noces de Figaro" et une séquence de "La Belle au Bois dormant" de Tchaikovski illustrée d’une chorégraphie très classique. Deux pièces orchestrales renommées, le sombre Intermezzo de "Cavalleria rusticana" et l’exubérante Ouverture du "Guillaume Tell", complètent le programme. Les stars sont la jeune soprano italienne Federica Lombardi et le tout aussi jeune ténor britannique Freddie De Tommaso. Le récital de "tubes" indémodables commence par "Casta Diva", air de bravoure s’il en est. La voix harmonieuse d’une belle élégance de la soprano atteint vite son plein épanouissement lorsqu’elle devient Musetta dans "La Bohème". Le ténor impressionne par sa puissance vocale aux aigus lumineux, chante Bizet avec pathos et offre un admirable "Nessum dorma" enthousiasmant le public. Le chœur est admirablement à l’aise dans le célébrissime "Va pensero". Dans "Libiam ne’ lieti calici", bissé sous une pluie de confettis, le duo triomphe. (Gérard Martin)

The Teatro La Fenice opened in 1792 and is one of the most renowned and most beautiful theaters in the world. Since nearly 20 years it has celebrated the traditional New Year‘s concert every year, which became immediately vast popularity in Italy and abroad making it one of the best-known and desired New Year´s events. The orchestra of Teatro La Fenice, conducted by Daniel Harding, presents a colourful array of arias and orchestral pieces. As soloists soprano Federica Lombardi and tenor Freddie De Tommaso sing famous arias as Casta Diva and Nessun dorma among others from the operas Carmen, La traviata, La bohème, Turandot, William Tell and La clemenza di Tito. On top Jacopo Tissi, now principal of the Dutch National Ballet, is dancing a scene from Tchaikovsky´s ballet The Sleeping Beauty in this thrilling and exhilarating concert.
