Angelika Nebel, piano

Angelika Nebel a de la suite dans les idées. La pianiste allemande, professeure renommée au collège Robert-Schumann de Düsseldorf signe son troisième enregistrement consacré aux transcriptions pour piano d'œuvres de Jean-Sébastien Bach. Après Bach -Transkriptionen en 2009 et Bach Metamorphosis en 2013, voici maintenant Bach-Illuminationes. Cette fois, Angelika Nebel propose vingt pièces extraites de compositions pour orgue, pour violon (Partitas pour violon seul), Sonate pour violon et clavecin, Suite pour orchestre n°3... Elle a fait appel - outre elle-même à trois reprises - à pas moins de dix transcripteurs. Certains sont fort célèbres, (Franz Liszt, Dimitri Kabalevki ou Egon Petri), d'autres sont moins connus du grand public (nous ne résistons pas au plaisir de citer le nom du très jeune Brésilien Wagner Stefani d'Aragona Malheiro Prado !). Ce disque permet d'entendre des œuvres très familières tel le prélude de choral "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" (le fameux Choral du Veilleur) transcrit par le pianiste allemand Ludwig Stark (1831-1884) et des pépites à découvrir à volonté. Ne boudons pas notre plaisir : malgré le nombre d'« intervenants » important, le travail d'Angelika Nebel est cohérent et constitue une très agréable promenade dans l'univers du Cantor de Leipzig. Même si le style de ce voyage pourra être jugé par trop romantique par les puristes... (Frédéric Menu)

With her first critically acclaimed recording for hänssler CLASSIC, "Metamorphosis", pianist Angelika Nebel took an in-depth look at piano arrangements of works by Johann Sebastian Bach. In her new recording "Illuminationes", she now traverses the full spectrum of transcriptions, from the 19th and 20th centuries, straight through to the 21st century as well as those from many different countries, for a vision of Bach’s music that is international and timeless; the Soul encountered through the prism of these sacred piano meditations. In addition to well-known composers and arrangers of Bach such as Franz Liszt, Dmitri Kabalevsky and Egon Petri, there are also some unknown composers. Nevertheless, their transcriptions are worthy for inclusion and offer further evidence of Bach’s tremendous compositional stature. Perhaps, it is their own humility that is so very evident as it is with Bach and “his” pianist, Angelika Nebel?
